Welcome

Herland is a womyn's community located in Oklahoma City.  We strive to strengthen, enrich, and support women, and to promote a world free of all types of prejudice, oppression, and exploitation.

We connect women to a community of strong women and help them find the support they need to grow, evolve, and find their power within themselves.  We do this by holding regular monthly events,  educational events, regular group programs, special events, and twice a year womyn's retreats.  And we partner with other groups to provide educational and community support programs.

If you are new to OKC or to the community or just looking for some new friends or support, we encourage you to come to one of our events.  We'd love to meet you and get you connected to the Herland community of women.

Herland Library & Oral History Project

UCO professor Lindsey Churchill received a nearly $30,000 grant to support archiving and  preserving the history of Herland Sister Resources. The start date for the students (7 to 8 undergrads and 6 to 7 grad students) was August 22,  2016 and the grant continued through May 2017.

The scope of this project included:

  • Transferring the Herland Library to the new UCO BLGTQ+ center on the UCO campus where it can be preserved and better utilized - done!

  • Interviews for the oral history project to be accessible for future generations - done!

  • Scanning all the Herland newsletters - done and available online!

  • Preserving other archival materials - done!

  • A documentary about Herland - done!

  • A possible book about Herland

We toured the new Center in Thatcher Hall and it's great! The Herland Library is being used by hundreds of students each year!

The Herland documentary was screened for the first time at the OSU Museum of Art in Stillwater on Apr 26, 2019. Watch for further screenings in Oklahoma City at the annual International Gender & Sexuality Studies Conference and possibly 2019 Pride.  Check our Facebook events page for upcoming screenings.
