Herland Sister Resources

Join the Herland Supper Club on Saturday, January 10, at 5:30 pm for dinner and a movie.  We will have the theater room at Italiano’s Pasta and Pizza, 4801 N. Lincoln Blvd, all to ourselves.  Their menu includes mouth-watering dishes like baked ziti and meatball supremo, lighter fare like soups and salads, and a pizza and pasta bar.  And Italiano’s has a full selection of wines and beers.

We will be eating in their theater room and will watch a true classic—Desert Hearts—while we eat.  Filmed in 1985, this was one of the first lesbian love stories to hit the big screens.  Set in 1950s Reno, Nevada, Desert Hearts tells the story of a 35 year old professor that comes to town to file for divorce and falls for a free-spirited 25 year old casino worker.  Join us as we revisit this timeless classic.

Join us for an evening meal of barbecue ribs at Herland on Saturday, November 8, at Herland.  If it’s good weather, we’ll be in the backyard, if it’s cold or damp, we’ll be inside.  Either way, we are bringing in BBQ ribs, potato salad, baked beans, dessert and drinks.  All for only $6.00!  We start at 5:30 p.m. and play some games afterward.

We need to take care of some regular and special maintenance at Herland before winter.  If you can spare a couple of hours, please drop by and help.  We’ll be patching a hole in the eaves where squirrels are getting in the attic and doing some general cleanup and painting.  Everyone is needed!

After the dust has settled from Thanksgiving and you’re ready for something a little more sane, come by Herland for some pie, coffee, and relaxing  with friends.  We’ll have everything, just come by and visit.

Herland is proud to be among the ranks of only a handful of other lgbt organizations that have made it to the 25-year mark.  A few large cities like New York and the San Francisco have centers that have lasted that long but OKC is one of the few outside the coasts that can boast such an accomplishment.  It’s time to celebrate and look back over our achievements of the last 25 years.
The anniversary celebration will be held from 4:30—7 pm on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at Herland.  The event begins with a reception where we will have hors d’oeuvres and drinks as we gather and visit.  You can browse the 25th Anniversary scrapbook with pictures and stories sent in by Herlanders and watch videos of past Herland retreats and other events.  Then, we’ll gather to honor past board members and volunteers ask some of you to share a few thoughts or stories about your times at Herland. 
The focus of this event is to bring together old friends and enable folks to reconnect with some they may not have seen in a while. 
It’s not too late to put together a story or a few photos to bring to the anniversary party.  Just email the stories to us at herland@herlandsisters.org or bring them with you the afternoon of the celebration.  We look forward to seeing you there!
