the art & practice of meditation

The Silence Foundation and OCU are sponsoring a two-session interactive workshop on meditation practices on Thursday, April 17 and Thursday, April 24 from 7 pm to 9 pm.
The practices shared are time honored, simple, and commonly used. They involve sitting, walking, and eating meditation, as well as the creative use of time, space, art and journaling. Lecture and group discussion will focus on a brief overview of meditation, its purpose, and its regular practice. Participants will experience meditation methods and create a personal plan for their own spiritual practice from a wide selection of options.
Presenters are Patricia Webb and David McCleskey, a husband and wife team who created The Silence Foundation, Inc., an Oklahoma not-for-profit dedicated to spiritual and peace-making practices, starting from within. The workshop is free. To register, call The Silence Foundation at 286-0091 or OCU School of Religion at 208-5284.

ferraro on obama

The following are quotes made by Geraldine Ferraro, former vice presidential candidate, to the Daily Breeze.
“I think what America feels about a woman becoming president takes a very secondary place to Obama’s campaign - to a kind of campaign that it would be hard for anyone to run against. For one thing, you have the press, which has been uniquely hard on her. It’s been a very sexist media. Some just don’t like her. The others have gotten caught up in the Obama campaign.
“If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.
“I was reading an article that said young Republicans are out there campaigning for Obama because they believe he’s going to be able to put an end to partisanship. Dear God! Anyone that has worked in the Congress knows that for over 200 years this country has had partisanship - that’s the way our country is.”
