Herland Sister Resources

The Herland Scrabble Day returns after a one-month hiatus (hey, that’s a good Scrabble word).  Join us on Saturday, December 1, at 2 pm as we challenge each other with words like titfers, darnels, exo, eme, sodality, and fum!

Join us on Saturday, December 8, at 5:30 pm for the Herland Supper Club at Hideaway Pizza, 6616 N. Western.  The Hideaway has yummy pasta dishes, salads, and, of course, great pizzas.  There is something for everyone.  After Supper Club we will head back to Herland for a White Elephant and Dessert Party.

Bring a dessert to share and join us after Supper Club on Saturday, December 8, at 7:30 pm.  We will rev up the holiday spirit by exchanging white elephant—or “dirty Santa” - gifts.  This is a game where everyone brings a wrapped gift and draws a number. Then the fun really starts.  The first person chooses a gift from the gift pile, opens the gift for all to see, and keeps it for the time being. The next person can either choose to take an unopened gift from the gift pile or steal a gift from any previous gift-opener. If at any time a person’s gift is stolen, that person can immediately unwrap a new gift or steal another person’s gift. The game keeps going till you get to the end.  You can choose to bring something fun from around the house and wrap it or buy a gift to bring, but please spend no more than $5-$10 tops. This game is tons of fun as people steal, trade, and barter for what they want.

Start the new year off right with a potluck dinner and games at Herland on Tuesday, January 1, at 1 pm.  We will provide a pot of chili and the traditional dishes of cabbage and black-eyed peas.  Bring a dessert or another side and help us ring in the new year.

We are serious about getting some of our used books off the shelves and into readers’ hands.  Don’t miss our huge sale and swap of used books on Saturday, January 26. Bring in a few that you have already read and swap each of them for two of ours.  Or, buy ours at 50 cents a piece.  This is a deal like no other and it only lasts for one day.
