Girls who played sports in high school are far more likely to gain a college diploma than their peers, according to a recent study by researchers at Brigham Young University. Girls in the study were 73% more likely to complete a bachelor’s degree within six years of graduating from high school if they had been athletes. And, it did not matter if they continued to play sports in college or not. The female students who had been athletes said that playing sports taught them to persevere. Sports kept them grounded, kept them out of trouble, and put them in a group that had the same mind-set.
