Spanish prime minister slams church over marriage row

“I will never understand those who proclaim love as the foundation of life, while denying so radically protection, understanding and affection to our neighbors, our friends, our relatives, our colleagues,” Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said last month in his state of the nation speech. Zapatero was said to be responding to Spanish bishops who have called on the country’s Catholics to resist a new law that will legalize marriage for gays and lesbians.

P-FLAG Oklahoma City

P-FLAG Oklahoma City will be meeting at 7:00 p.m. at Church of the Open Arms, 3131 N. Penn on Tuesday, June 7. Remember, you do not have to be a member of P-FLAG to join. If you joined P-FLAG at the organizational meeting and didn’t pay your membership fee, you might want to bring it with you this time.

There will be a business meeting at 6:00. We will be electing a new board, looking at our budget and talking about the Pride Parade. The business meetings are open.

  • Saturday, June 11: Herland Hike at Martin Nature Park, 5000 W. Memorial, 10 am.
  • Saturday, June 11: Herland Supper Club at Granny Had One in Guthrie. Meet at Herland at 5:45 for car pooling. After dinner (8:00 pm), attend “Ain’t Misbehavinâ€� at the Pollard Theatre where our own Mary Reynolds and Louise Goldberg will be providing the music.
  • Sunday, June 12: Herland book art class, noon to 3pm.
  • Monday, June 13: OGLPC Monthly Meeting at the Center, 2135 NW 39th, 7 pm.
  • Saturday, June 18: Herland indoor/outdoor game night, 6 pm.
  • Saturday, June 18: Denton Stampede at OKC Lightening—Taft Stadium, located at NW 27th and May Ave With kickoff time for all games being 7:00 PM. For ticket information, call Tammy Raiber at 405-417-0334.
  • Sunday, June 19: Herland Board Meeting at Herland, 4 pm. Everyone welcome.
  • Friday, June 24: “Tying the Knotâ€� film at 6 pm, Church of the Open Arms; presented by Womyn of Color and OKC Pride. Reception following, donation $5—20, you choose.
  • Saturday, June 25: Herland Pride Picnic in the backyard starting a 5 p m. Come enjoy food and music with Peggy Johnson as MC.

Future Dates—mark your calendars

  • October 28-30: Herland Fall Retreat at Eufaula State Park (this is our 40th Retreat). This will be a very special retreat with big events planned so don’t miss it!
