From the release of her 1966 song “Society\’s Child” at age 15, a song of interracial love that was banned by radio stations, to her 1975 song “At Seventeen” that sold over a million copies, to her 2000 release “God and the FBI”, Janis Ian has maintained an integrity and honesty in her music spanning across five decades and earning her 9 Grammy nominations. Poetic lyrics, strong vocals and a wide range of musical styles highlight her work, including her current and 18th studio album “Billie’s Bones”, a
folk-blues-jazz mix with a tribute to Billie Holliday.

Janis married her female partner of 14 years in 2003 in Canada. “We also got married because, just like coming out, public figures need to do that to make the rest of the world aware. I think it’s important that people are made aware, because at the eend of the day it’s a civil rights issue.”
